PARIS -- UNESCO will celebrate the upcoming 50th anniversary of the People's Republic of China (PRC) with "the biggest Chinese cultural event" ever held in France. The event September 1 to 12, named "China's March Towards the 21st Century", will include art and photo exhibitions, concerts and seminars highlighting 5,000 years of Chinese history. "It will also present China in movement, turned towards the future, 50 years after it joined our organization," said Federico Mayor, who heads the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The PRC was founded on October 1, 1949.
